Why?
In 2021 we had this crazy idea to open up an ice cream shop. We believe ice cream is fun and exciting which made it an easy sell. After searching for a building, we located the perfect spot in Marysville. Currently we are in the planning and renovation stage of our dream. Our goal is to open in May of 2022, and we can hardly wait!
So how did we pick the name Hippy Dippy Creamery?!?!
After going through many different ideas, searching Google, find it taken, starting over, we finally landed on our current name. I work for the Post Office as a Rural Letter Carrier, mail by day, ice cream by night! My Postmaster Rob (who demands free ice cream for the inspiration lol) always called our craft a bunch of Hippy Dippys compared to City Letter Carriers. While thinking of a name for the business I was reviewing some equipment. To serve the ice cream we have to buy a dipping cabinet which you dip the ice cream out of. I instantly remembered what our Postmaster jokingly says in just like that we had a name and theme! Like most business names they just seem to fall out of the sky and have an instant connection. My wife Jamie and I have been busy planning for months and we truly hope you love everything when we open. - Matthew
How did we choose our ice cream brand?
As many of you know, there are tons of brands of ice cream. All of them claim to be the best for various reasons. One of the first things we did starting this journey was to join the North American Ice Cream Association and went to an Ice Cream trade show in Orlando. There we learned all about what makes a good ice cream based on butter fat content and overrun (the amount of air in the product). Plus, we got to taste some amazing companies. Ultimately one company stood out above the rest, Chocolate Shoppe based in Madison Wisconsion! Not to get too wordy with technical details we will try to hippy it down for you. To be called an ice cream you have to have a minimum of 10% butter fat in your product, in fact, soft serve is not truly ice cream because of this (typically only 5% butter fat). There are different categories in the ice cream based on the percentage, to be a super-premium you must have at least 14% butter fat. Overrun is the amount of air put into the product while it's made. Many ice creams you can buy have a 100% overrun which means when it melts half of the ice cream is gone. You can tell just in the weight of the product; a cheap brand will weigh less than a premium product. Now back to why we chose Chocolate Shoppe, their super premium ice cream is 14% butter fat with only a 35% overrun. What does this mean to you? It means you will have some of the best tasting ice cream you will ever have!!
